Public Image Ltd. - Memories

So I heard this morning that PIL is releasing their 1st new album in 2 decades at the end of the month.  Please let it not suck!  I always get worried when bands I idolized in my youth get back together and make new music.  Not that I think John Lydon has mellowed with age or anything… but then again, he does shill butter so the jury is out.

This is an edit from an EP released last month.  I’m decidedly undecided about it.  I actually like the music, which is not completely terrible.  But I think where I take issue is lyrically.  I mean, he waxes poetic about cleaning his room.  On shrooms.  With a broom.  Allllllrighty then.

Ceremony - “Adult”

This is one of those songs I heard on Sirius XMU that literally made me to a double take.  (Not a good thing while driving.)  My immediate thought was it’s some Public Image Limited song I’d somehow never heard or perhaps some new song off the Sex Pistols album re-release I keep hearing about.  I convinced myself it was some sort of high production value John Lydon, (Johnny Rotten to you punks).  Imagine my surprise.

If there is one way to get to my heart, it’s channeling John Lydon.  Not to mention the song fucking rocks.  Sadly, I missed them at SXSW this year, but I’m positive this Cali punk band isn’t going to disappear anytime soon.  Download the MP3 here.

John Lydon brings PiL back from the dead… with butter?

I can only assume Public Image Ltd is being reformed because “It’s about great butter”.  This mini reunion is 17 years in the making, all taking place for 5 UK dates this December.  Buzz & demand have been enough to cause the PiL mailing list to crash… dairy freaks, I imagine.  One wonders if this limited engagement might lead to US dates?  Either way, it will be great to see crotchety Johnny Rotte… I mean, John Lydon abuse & humiliate reporters once again, God love him.   Altho perhaps all that butter has mellowed ol’ Johnny out with it’s creamy smoothness and British cows???

Hopefully NOT. More Mtv moments like this are definitely in order.  And oooh may the road rise with Dave Kendall’s wig.  Like magic, folks.  No wires.
