Crystal Castles - Suffocation

I can’t post about new HEALTH without posting about new Crystal Castles also.  Personally, they go hand in hand since I saw the both at FunFunFun Fest 2009, CC’s on the orange stage that perfectly weathered Saturday night and HEALTH in the mud n rain Sunday night on the blue stage.  But musically, I LOVE it when they remix each other to point of actually liking the remix better than the original.

Suffocation is no exception.  It’s a GREAT song, but HEALTH takes it next level.  I’m probably biased, but I feel like it has more depth & is far more sultry than the original.  i.e.  #songsIwannafuckto

Crystal Castles - Suffocation (HEALTH Remix)

Same story for HEALTH’s Eat Flesh, off their 2009 album Get Color.  Crystal Castles delivers a much more ethereal remix compared to the drum heavy, noisecore original for HEALTH’s 2010 remix album Disco2.  If HEALTH ever comes out with a new album, one can only hope that CC will remix the shit out of it.

HEALTH - Tears  (Max Payne 3 Soundtrack)

HEALTH is no stranger to this blog.  And as a long time fan, it’s been exciting to see them coming out with new material this year … after all it’s been 3 long years since their last album & the only time I ever saw them perform.  Unfortunately, a game soundtrack was not exactly the new album I was hoping for.  But beggars can’t be choosers, I suppose, and I guess I will finally be able to utter the words, “I can’t wait for the new Max Payne soundtrack to come out.”  (o_O)  ’Scuse me while I cross that gem off my bucket list.

  In the meantime, here’s some “vintage” HEALTH from 2009’s Get Color.   I’ve already posted my fave Die Slow before, so here’s my next 2 favorites off that album.

HEALTH - Die Slow

I’m looking forward to seeing these guys at Fun Fun Fun Fest.  They’ve been making a name for themselves over the last two years and are certainly one of the best bands to come out of LA in a long time.  And it certainly doesn’t suck to have Trent Reznor in your corner, having periodically opened for NIN both on last year’s Lights in the Sky tour and a few California shows next month.  These guys are definitely at the top of my “Do Not Miss” for 3xFun Fest.
