Purity Ring - “Belispeak”

Seems like every time I get into my car, I’m constantly finding Purity Ring on my satellite radio.  Not bad for a band whose debut album hasn’t even been released yet, (Shrines, July 24th).  And the more I hear from them, the more I think they are going to be my new Phantogram or Ghostland Observatory… because apparently I have a penchant for 2 person bands.  Frankly, if the rest of the album is as good as the 3 singles I’ve heard so far, it could very well be my favorite album of 2012.  Time will tell, I guess.

I’ve been listening to this all week, and I love it.  I’m a diehard GLO fan, but I was SO disappointed by this album… at first.  It’s different.  True.  As an old fan, the new tunes are simplistic, even dated.  Frankly, when you have a distinctive voice that MAKES the band, why change it????

But on 3rd listen, …or so…, you can hear the exploration.  And the subtle nuances.  I listened for THE VOICE at first.  When you have that signature voice, why distort it?  But they did.  And frankly, it’s interesting.  Hear it, then hear it again.  I’m hooked!!!!

July Music Calendar

Karma & I haven’t always been on the best of terms.  In fact, I had THE worst year ever last year & early this year.  But lately, karma has been trying to kiss my ass a little.  It’s been a nice change of pace.

Starting with the May 12th NINJA Tour, I somehow managed to get backstage & meet members of Nine Inch Nails & Jane’s Addiction.  (This after enjoying the entire show from the front rows… best concert experience of my LIFE!)  In June, I won tickets to see Flametrick Subs (via Do512) & to attend a taping of Austin City Limits.  Sadly, I was unable to attend either events, but it was nice to win something all the same.

In the last 24 hours, I’ve won 2 separate pairs of tickets.  Yesterday, I won tix to attend the Austin Fashion Week Awards & after party via Sublime Stitching.  Then today, I won tix to a Stubbs concert on Friday via Covert Curiosity. The next few weeks are gonna be suh-WEET.
