The Black Keys - “Gold On The Ceiling”

I’m loving the new Black Keys video.  Not only are they confusing the hell out of their mainstream fans, but the video is directed by Harmony Korine.  If you are familiar with the cult film Gummo, then you know that Harmony’s aesthetic and point of view is more than a little left of center.  He starts with what I can only describe as white trash couture and mixes it up into fragmented vingettes that have the equal ability to both endear & horrify the audience.  Well done to The Black Keys for stepping outside the box.

I’m also loving this video because it gives me opportunity to post my favorite short film Umshini Wam by Harmony Korine starring one of my favorite bands Die Antwoord.  You’ll notice a lot of the same themes in both videos in a visual style that can only be called Harmony.  Both Die Antwoord & The Black Keys play ACL this fall… can’t wait!

Florence + The Machine - “Spectrum”

New decadence from Florence.  David LaChapelle co-directs this Black Swan-esque spectacle wherein Florence becomes the Disco Swan (them outfits!), then inexplicably transforms into a feathery mermaid.  I don’t know either, but it’s super fun to watch.  Florence + The Machine will come to Austin on Friday, Oct. 12th for ACL.

M83 - “Reunion”

Brand new M83 video.  This video continues the creepy kid chronicles from Midnight City.  Also, see if you can find the subtle MCA tribute.  M83 will be in Austin @ ACL on Friday, Oct. 12th.

Metric – “Speed The Collapse”

This is the 2nd single off the new Metric album Synthetica, out in June.  Admittedly, I wasn’t impressed by the 1st single “Youth Without Youth”, released last month.  But I’m definitely digging “Speed The Collapse” a lot more, which gives me hope for the new album.  Metric rolls through Austin for ACL on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.

ACL - October 12-14, 2012

The official lineup was released and pre-sale ticket sales began today.  And if you listen carefully, you can still hear the soft murmur of desperate panic as the masses take to social networks to beg for pre-sale codes.  Already, the 3-day passes are sold out in pre-sale as well as the 1-day Saturday passes, with 1-day Friday passes not far behind.  Regular tickets go on sale tomorrow, however you got to wonder if there will BE any tickets left to sale.

This years headliners include Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, and Neil Young.  Other acts include Jack White, M83, Florence & The Machine, the Roots, the Shins, the Afghan Whigs, Iggy & The Stooges, Weezer, Crystal Castles, Tegan & Sara, Andrew Bird, Metric, Alabama Shakes, M. Ward, Die Antwoord, Rufus Wainwright, Avett Brothers, Gotye, Childish Gambino, The Civil Wars, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Steve Earle, the War On Drugs, Old 97′s, dancehall legend Barrington Levy, A-Trak, Big K.R.I.T., Oberhofer, Tennis, Zola Jesus, Black Lips, Los Campesinos!, Father John Misty, Willis Earl Beal, Thundercat, and many many more.

I am happy to report that The Prisoner & myself will be attending… like a mothafuckin BOSS!
