I missed these guys @ Fun Fun Fun Fest this year, (was up to my ankles in mud watching HEALTH in the rain when they took the yellow stage). Of course the big news was the arrest of King Khan & tour manager in Kentucky just days after Fun Fun Fun Fest for possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms. I’ve since been catching up on their new album Invisible Girl, out last month. Lonely Boy is hands down my favorite song, but I love the punk rock meets doo-wop spirit of I’ll Be Loving You. The King Khan & BBQ Show are like Chuck Berry on acid. Or at least hallucinogenic mushrooms. ;)
Return to Cinder is a punk band straight out of Texas by way of Austin, Victoria, & Houston. Born from the remains of several other bands, this Frankenstein’s monster has firm roots in its hardcore heritage with its middle finger outstretched in true punk rock fashion.
If you are in Austin, you’ll be able to catch a show at 8pm this Sunday @ Red Eyed Fly. Check out their MySpace for upcoming Victoria, Tx dates and a rockin’ cover of Jawbreaker’s “Do You Still Hate Me”.

I cannot stop listening to this. Surprising since I’m not particularly a big Radiohead fan (save a small handful of songs) nor a Thom Yorke crony. But the track that Thom contributed to the New Moon soundtrack has some great haunting beats & reminds me a little of Depeche Mode. And thanks to the leak, I’ve been enjoying a few other songs on the New Moon soundtrack, which is out 10/16, but this is by far the best track on the album.

I can only assume Public Image Ltd is being reformed because “It’s about great butter”. This mini reunion is 17 years in the making, all taking place for 5 UK dates this December. Buzz & demand have been enough to cause the PiL mailing list to crash… dairy freaks, I imagine. One wonders if this limited engagement might lead to US dates? Either way, it will be great to see crotchety Johnny Rotte… I mean, John Lydon abuse & humiliate reporters once again, God love him. Altho perhaps all that butter has mellowed ol’ Johnny out with it’s creamy smoothness and British cows???
Hopefully NOT. More Mtv moments like this are definitely in order. And oooh may the road rise with Dave Kendall’s wig. Like magic, folks. No wires.
Apparently I’m “Special Ed” slow. I’ve been listening to these 3 “separate” bands for months now, not realizing that any 1 of them had anything to do with the other. =/ But so it is… 1 man band Blank Dogs + 1 woman band Dum Dum Girls = the 2 person band “Super Group” The Mayfair Set. Go fucking figure.
*hangs head, kicks rocks, eats paste*
So here’s a lo-fi “mixed-up” tape of all 3. Cause I’m a little bit special…just a little bit special. (God, I love the inappropriateness that is Stephen Lynch.)
